Tiny Dancers

CKDC’s Tiny Dancers program runs from January to May and august to december. Tiny Dancers is a structured and creative movement class for young artists age 3 - 6.

CKDC is a 501c3 nonprofit professional dance company and community cultural education center. Our mission is to make dance accessible and we accomplish that in a variety of ways.

Here are a few things that set us apart from a traditional dance studio: we don't participate in any competitions and there are no registration fees to join our program. We aim to raise our students as artists and all classes are taught from a concert dance perspective, in a non-competitive environment.

We want our students to feel comfortable in class. Some of our students love wearing ballet tights and leotards, and others prefer to come to class in leggings and a tank top. The only thing we ask is that if our dancers are wearing a dress, they wear shorts under it, since much of our dance curriculum involves going upside down!

There's also no need for you to purchase expensive shoes for our Tiny Dancers class. Though we practice both tap and ballet in our classes, as well as a dozen other styles, we have shoes available for students to borrow each week. At this age, our students grow so fast and we're not sure they want to make a career out of dance, so we'd rather offer a sustainable option.

Speaking of sustainability, CKDC is very passionate about the environment. In a traditional dance studio, hundreds of costumes are purchased for students multiple times a year and these costumes range in cost between $85 - $200 per costume. These costumes accumulate in the students' closets because they aren't very versatile, so it's an enormous expense for a one-time-use garment.

At CKDC, we have a costume closet. This is great for our concert dance style training program because this is what professional companies do. Our parents pay a $40 donation to "check out" costumes and they don't have to worry about keeping/storing them. Every concert requires some new purchases, so the $40 costume fee helps us cover all the dances, but many things can be pulled from the closet so we can keep our consumption down. This helps us save you money and we feel better about our impact. You will also receive a tax-deductible receipt for your donation to the cause.
